Denver Mint water main break

Crews worked to repair a water main break in downtown Denver in front of the entrance to the U.S. Mint on Thursday.

The repairs shut down Cherokee Street between 14th and Colfax. The Mint is located at 320 West Colfax Avenue.

The break left the Mint without running water.

Denver Water said all lanes are expected to be open by 7 p.m. Thursday. Denver Water engineers also are not certain what caused the break but said it could be a number of things from the age of the pipes to the extreme hot and cold temperatures in Denver this winter.

The U.S. Mint tours and gift shop were closed because of the water main break repairs.
