MYSTERY CHINESE COIN THEORY: PART OF AN IMPORTED BASKET?

Chinese Coin Latham NY Regarding last week's E-Sylum item about the Chinese coin recently discovered at a New York archeological site, Dick Doty writes:
The Chinese coin recently unearthed at Latham appears to date from the reign of Ch.ien lung (1736-1795). One possible source would be a basket. In the nineteenth century, Chinese baskets for export were often adorned with two or more coins, and those of Ch.ien lung often predominated, due to the length and output of his reign. If there are any vestiges of bent twigs or sticks in the vicinity of the find, you may have your answer.
