The latest additions to the Newman Numismatic Portal are the auction sale catalogs of American Numismatic Rarities. Project Coordinator Len Augsburger provided the following report. -Editor

American Numismatic Rarities Auction Sale Catalogs on Newman Portal

Libertas Americana silver medal from the Cardinal collection Following the sale of Bowers & Merena Galleries to Collectors Universe in 2000, several of the old Bowers & Merena firm came together to create American Numismatic Rarities (ANR), which began presenting auction sales in 2003. The firm conducted 25 sales between 2003 and 2006 and then merged with Stack’s, today known as Stack’s Bowers (the Bowers name being reacquired in 2011).

While the naming has come full circle, this set of 25 catalogs contains some of the best American material offered in the mid-2000s. These are now scanned and available on the Newman Portal. Especially memorable in this run are the smaller sales which presented boutique collections. Among them are Oliver Jung (107 lots of U.S. type), and the Cardinal collection (61 lots, primarily early U.S. dollars), both of which hammered at over $5 million. The Newman Portal acknowledges Brian Kendrella of Stack’s Bowers for his assistance with this project.

I'm glad to see this development for several reasons, but for me personally I'm happy to see the June 2006 Lake Michigan and Springdale Collections sale catalog online, because it contains my consignment of U.S. Civil War numismatica including Encased Postage Stamps. ANR did a great job of presenting and selling my material. Have a browse through all of the catalogs. -Editor
