HERITAGE: LONDON LECTURE AND BANKNOTE PREVIEW

Heritage Auctions London is gearing up for something of a milestone. Our London gallery has hosted all sorts of exhibitions before—from Game of Thrones props and costumes to a preview of the Ruby Slippers. But never, until now, have we held an exhibition including banknotes.

On Tuesday 28th July, I'm thrilled to be bringing highlights from our upcoming October World Paper Money Signature® Auction across from Dallas for a preview evening in London. There's a wonderful selection making the journey, but there are a few I'm especially excited to see up close.

Top of my list is the Republic of Hawaii 1895 $5. This is an issued example, arriving not long after we auctioned a Specimen of the same design with very strong results in our recent June World Paper Money Signature Auction in Hong Kong. The design itself is beautiful: the front depicts the Ali?iolani Hale building in Honolulu, with the statue of Kamehameha the Great standing outside it. Despite being over a century old and circulated, the engraving has remained remarkably clear.

Another note I'm excited to exhibit is the Kwangtung Currency Bureau 10 Dollars. Coming so soon after another example achieved a very successful result at our June Hong Kong auction, it's a pleasure to have a second to showcase in London. The double dragon motif on the front is unmistakable, and it is little wonder this is considered one of the most famous Chinese banknotes of the 20th century, with only eighteen examples currently recorded on the PMG Population Report.

Finally, there is the 1916 Zanzibar Government 5 Rupees. I don't think this note needs much introduction. It is the kind of elusive rarity many collectors only dream of owning. With just thirteen examples currently recorded in the PMG Population Report, it will be a privilege to see it in person before it heads to auction.

Doors are open from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Alongside the display of coin and banknote highlights, Zach Beasley, Director of Ancient Coins, will be joining us for a talk on "A Closer Look at the Coinage of the Londinium Mint", exploring coins produced in Roman London—fitting territory for anyone interested in where our own history begins. The evening will be followed by drinks and canapés, with plenty of time to roam the gallery and take in the coins and notes on display.

Heritage Auctions London is also holding a Valuation Day on Monday 27th July. Zach will be on hand to offer specialist insight into ancient coin collections, while I'll be delighted to offer free, friendly valuations and auction advice for banknote collectors. Whether you've been building a collection for decades, inherited a group of notes, or have simply been considering consigning to auction, this is a great opportunity to talk it through with our experts.
