Kolbe & Fanning Numismatic Booksellers are proud to announce that we will be offering the outstanding numismatic library assembled by Robert A. Schuman, M.D., on Saturday, September 26, 2026. The Schuman Library focuses on numismatics of the United States, and includes exceptional photographically illustrated classic auction catalogues (including every plated Chapman catalogue and nearly every plated Elder catalogue), rare periodicals, special editions, association copies, and much else.

Lot 1: a complete plated example of the 1911 Edgard Adams catalogue of William H. Woodin's collection of United States pattern coins

Lot 9: a handsomely bound, well-preserved copy of Emmanuel Joseph Attinelli's foundational bibliography of U.S. numismatics, the 1876 Numisgraphics

Lots 39 and 47

Lot 39: the Chapman brothers' priced and named reference copy of the plated Mills sale, with additional annotations tracing the sale of lots bought for stock by the Chapmans

Lot 47: John J. Ford, Jr.'s example of the rare plated edition of S.H. Chapman's 1909 catalogue of the Charles Gordon Zug collection, one of only half a dozen copies traced

Lot 61: the very rare plated J.M. Henderson sale catalogue, held by S.H. Chapman in May 1921, which brought a record $12,000 hammer when it was sold in the fourth Bass sale in 2000

To register for the sale, bidders must go to bid.numislit.com and sign up. Once you have set up an account, you may browse lots, place advance bids, or participate in the live sale online. Those wishing to participate on their devices can download the Kolbe & Fanning app through the Apple or Google Play Store. The sale will also be listed on Biddr and NumisBids.

The printed catalogue is being mailed to all active customers on our mailing list. As international mail speeds have been inconsistent, we encourage our foreign clients to consult the electronic catalogue in case their printed catalogue does not arrive promptly. A PDF of the printed catalogue has been posted to our main website at numislit.com for those who prefer that format. Bids placed via post, email, or phone must be received by September 25, the day before the sale, in order for them to be processed. Advance absentee bids may also be placed at any time online at bid.numislit.com. Internet bidding will be available during the sale itself through the same platform.
