MYSTERY METAL RODS FOUND IN BOOKNewman Numismatic Portal Project Coordinator Len Augsburger stumbled upon a book mystery this week. -Editor Mystery Metal Rods Found in Book on Ancient Art Recently I ordered a copy of Ancient Art in Bowdoin College, by Kevin Herbert. The book was duly received from an online bookseller. Upon examining the book, a group of metal rods fell out of the spine. Their purpose is unclear to me. Was this book smuggled into a correctional facility? As for the book itself, its numismatic content is a catalog of 51 Roman Imperial bronzes donated by John Max Wulfing to Bowdoin in 1926.
