NNP ADDS BARNSLEY SCRAPBOOKS ON NEW JERSEY COINAGE

NNP Adds Ned Barnsley Scrapbooks on New Jersey Coinage

Courtesy of Ray Williams, the Ned Barnsley scrapbooks on New Jersey colonial coinage are now available on Newman Portal. The two volumes represent a compilation of memoranda, correspondence, and photocopied clips from periodicals and auction catalogs. Data includes pedigree information for individual examples, notes on die varieties, and a host of documentation on other topics, such as Barnsley's 1959 inquiry to the U.S. Copyright Office on the status of the Maris (1881) volume, A Historic Sketch of the Coins of New Jersey.

Photocopies of these scrapbooks have circulated among the New Jersey colonial cognoscenti for some time, with a finely bound copy appearing in the Syd Martin library sale (Kolbe & Fanning 163, April 30, 2022), which realized $1,900. This content is complemented by the Newman-Barnsley correspondence already available on NNP, over 300 pages and covering the period 1958-1977.
