Creepy Coin Colors
A quick search of NNP located this listing of a 1909-S Indian cent in the Bowers & Merena September 1984 sale of the Danny Arnold and Romisa collections: "Virtually flawless surfaces. Cleaned, now colored a garish Halloween orange." This lot sold for $170.50. We find no other mention of "Halloween orange" anywhere else on NNP and can only imagine an overworked cataloger scheming whether the term might slip past the editorial hand of Q. David Bowers. They were successful!
This coin understandably wasn't imaged in the catalog, so we've done our best to recreate how it might have appeared.
