Although we operate as an ancient coin dealership, a substantial part of what we're building is a free educational resource designed to help people discover, understand, and eventually participate in ancient coin collecting.
We've developed several interconnected resources:
Collector's Academy: A growing educational section covering how to begin collecting ancient coins, denominations, terminology, authenticity, collecting practices, and other fundamentals. The goal is to give someone with no previous numismatic experience a practical starting point.
Roman Coin Legend Translator: A free tool designed to help collectors interpret the abbreviated Latin inscriptions found on Roman coins. Legends can be one of the most intimidating aspects of identifying ancient coins, particularly for beginners who don't understand imperial titles or Roman naming conventions.
Historical Articles and Research: We've published an extensive collection of articles connecting ancient coinage to Roman history, rulers, political events, religion, and everyday life. We try to demonstrate that a coin is more than an artifact or collectible. It's a surviving historical document.
Numismatic Organizations and Community Resources: We've also developed educational material introducing collectors to organizations and resources throughout the hobby, including the American Numismatic Society (ANS), the Ancient Coin Collectors Guild (ACCG), coin clubs, collecting groups, and other institutions. One of our goals is to help new collectors discover the larger numismatic community rather than treating collecting as an activity limited to buying and selling coins.
Roman Coin Reference Guide: We've published seven free volumes covering major periods of Roman imperial coinage. Although these include market information, the larger project also organizes rulers, historical periods, denominations, and related reference material.
Kinzer Ancient Coin Guide and Identifier: We've built a free companion application bringing together ruler information, coin references, and collecting resources. We're also actively developing a photographic identification system intended to help users narrow down possible identifications through portraits, legends, and reverse designs. That portion remains a work in progress, and we're placing considerable emphasis on improving accuracy.
Underlying all of this is a fairly simple idea: there are people who love ancient history who have never considered collecting ancient coins because they don't realize how accessible the hobby can be.
We're trying to bridge that gap while encouraging people to learn from established numismatic scholarship, institutions, and experienced collectors.
