"With kindest regards from Stuttgart," Ralf Böpple writes: "To the subject of the nostalgic Germans, which has been commented on in various newspapers over here, there is one doubt I have about the comparison of the number of coins in circulation (49 billion pieces) and still outstanding (25 billion pieces). Nobody I know or have spoken to set aside a considerable amount of deutschmark coins, while the lines at the Bundesbank branches with people handing in old coins and currency were enormous in the first months. So I really wonder where the 25 billion coins in discussion might be. The biggest part should be the millions and millions of commemorative coins and mint sets that were issued during the deutschmark decades.
