WAYNE'S NUMISMATIC DIARY: 2026 ANA, PART 4

This segment discuses my time at the Pittsburgh ANA on Friday, August 28th. Here's a view from my room, looking toward the convention center.

The Wienermobile was still parked out front

At breakfast I ran into Bob Fritsch and we shared a table. He suggested going out the hotel's back door to get to the convention center - it's faster. He's right. I'd learned that lesson last time but forgot and fell into the habit of going out the front door. The back way gets you to the riverwalk, which goes right under the convention center and is closer to where you enter the building.

There's a nice historical marker noting the nearby location of the launch of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, which stopped next in St. Louis before departing for the unexplored west.

Ephemera
I resisted the temptation to gather some, but physical advertising flyers are not dead - there were multiple tables filled with offerings.

The New Newman Numismatic Portal
At 10am I attended Len Augsburger's talk on the Newman Numismatic Portal's new platform.

NBS General Meeting and Charity Auction
At 11:30 it was time for the annual NBS General Meeting and Charity Auction.

1933 Double Eagle Display
I ducked out of the auction to get downstairs for the end of the second U.S. Mint panel session on the 1933 double eagles. Eleven of them were on display. After speaking with Stephen Fenton and getting David Tripp's autograph on my copy of his book, I took these photos. I wasn't the only one taking photos.

There was a long line waiting to meet Mint Director Paul Hollis.

Nathanael Greene Society of the Cincinnati Medal
I stopped the speak with E-Sylum supporter Jon Sullivan, who pointed out an amazing exhibit at a table just across the aisle.

U.S. Mint Director Appointment Documents
In the but-wait-there's-more department, there were official documents appointing U.S. Mint Directors ANA 2026-08-28 MINT DIRECTOR APPOINTMENTS Washington appointed David Rittenhouse, Elias Boudinot, and Samuel Moore.

Hanging Out in the Club Aisle
My next stop was the club table aisle, where I got to speak with several old friends.

Len Augsburger and I sat down to speak with Dave Schenkman about some unpublished manuscripts he'd like to work with the Newman Portal to wrap up and post online. That's Eric Schena manning the next table.

Tyrants of the Golden Horn Exhibit
Next, I caught a look at the Tyrants Byzantine coin exhibit.

I finished my day at the show over in the competitive exhibit area. I'll save that for another couple articles.
